Another Mississippi troop deploys to Afghanistan. This morning, members of Detachment 23 for the 412th Theater Engineer Command left for a one-year mission.? The 32 Army Reservists will help Afghanistans with their roads and bridges, as well as security for the U.S. troops already serving in the Middle East.
"I trust god with everything and I know he's going to be okay," comments Patricia Dotson.
Her youngest son is being deployed to the Middle East for the first time.
When asked what she thought her son would miss the most about being at home, Dotson replied, ?Mom's cooking, definitely mom's cooking."
Dotson and her son, like many families, plan to talk as much as possible.
"Letters, emails, whatever, but we will have some connection," explains Dotson.
"We?ll do Facebook.? I don't do Skype.? We did it last time and I couldn't see them and I couldn't touch them.? And, I said no more," adds Lt. Col. Larry Bonds.
Bonds calls his second deployment to Afghanistanan adventure.? But, his family doesn't feel the same way.
"My soon-to-be 11-year-old has been clinging on to me like a leech," laughs Bonds.
For many of these soldiers, this is their first trip overseas.? And, they will rely on the returning veterans to get them through the mission.
"We just have to be more cautious every time we go over because you're only as good as the last time you were there.? It doesn't get easier, but all the safety precautions are still in place," Lt. Col. Victor Walton tells News Channel 12.
Walton adds the troops are trained and are ready to take on any challenge.
The soldiers are headed to Fort Bliss, Texas where they will spend the new few weeks preparing for their mission to Afghanistan.
